Compostable

Cocopeat is an excellent environmentally friendly alternative to peat made from pressed coconut fibres.

Each 650g block will absorb 6 - 8 litres of water and swell to make 9 litres of compost.

Each 5kg block creates a whopping 70 litres of peat free compost. So put it in a large container when you’re making it!

Buy Land Plant Trees

At the core of Chimney Sheep is our Community Interest Company, Buy Land Plant Trees (BLPT). For every purchase you make with us, 20% of the profit facilitates the planting of trees on agriculturally poor land in Cumbria.

We set up BLPT in 2019 as a ‘boots on the ground’ tree planting initiative. The company is run by us and the tree planting is done by us. We do it to help you and us to reduce our impact on the planet. The trees we plant reduce CO2 output as well as contribute to the reduction of flooding and the creation of habitats for wildlife.

BLPT isn’t a tick box exercise nor a distant and detached carbon offset company. In fact, this is as much part of our business as the products we sell and is an integral part of our ethos. We are big believers in the phrase ‘think globally, act locally’ and want to make a genuine difference

Great for balcony gardening

My son lives several floors up in a block of flats in London. Normally replanting pots is a challenge, particularly hauling around bags of soil. 3 small blocks of Cocopeat and a bucket for mixing were all we needed this time. The plants seem very happy.

Marvellous for someone aged 80 who can't carry heavy bags of compost. I live in a groundfloor flat, have nowhere to store large bags. Easy to use, good for the planet. I lived north of Carlisle for 33 years, and witnessed buildings etc encroaching on the countryside, getting closer and closer to areas of wetland containing peat. Nobody in Sussex where I live now has any idea about how critical it is not to use peat based compost! This product is a marvellous alternative in so many ways, it arrived very quickly, and is good value for money. I would recommend it to anyone for all these reasons.

Too early to tell if the plants will like this compost as much as I do 🙃 A great way to order compost on line, as it is very light and compact. Fills a bucket when rehydrated. Have given 5 stars for product and process so far; am awaiting germination of seeds for the real test.
Note: use the smaller quantity of water in the first instance when rehydrating. I went straight in with the maximum amount, and ended having to drain some liquid off. I probably lost nutrients, as the drained water was builder-tea coloured. Much better to use the bare minimum of H2O, and keep all the goodness for the seedlings.

Ideal for soil improvement.

It does what it says on the tin! You just soak the very compact block in some water for a short time and it swells and breaks up to create about 9 litres of fibrous compost, ready to go on the garden and doesn't need watering afterwards. Great for my clay soil. I love that I can get plenty of these without having to go to the garden centre, and best of all it is completely free of peat (and also lots of nitrogen based chemicals?)
