Dried Mealworms for Birds – 1.5kg

Your garden birds are going to love these tasty, dried mealworms!

The natural diet of many birds includes insects, particularly Blackbirds, Robins and Thrushes. The protein they derive from this is essential to maintain their bodies full working order.

These mealworms are highly nutritious, providing the perfect blend of protein, fat and fibre. They have been carefully dried out to retain lots of nutrients and are less wriggly, less messy and more convenient than live mealworms.

This box has 1.5kg of dried mealworms.

Why are dried mealworms good for birds?

These dried mealworms are highly nutritious, providing the perfect blend of protein, fat and fibre. Supplementing their diets with dried mealworms can make a real difference to their health and wellbeing. Mealworms provide exactly the right type of insect protein birds need to repair and maintain their muscle mass.

What birds are these dried mealworms suitable for?

These dried mealworms are perfect for lots of wild birds. These include Blackbirds, Robins, Blue Tits, Coal Tits, Great Tits, Bullfinches, Buntings, Linnets, Starlings, Wagtails, Goldfinches, Chaffinches, Greenfinches, Dunnocks, Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Tree Sparrows, House Sparrows, Nuthatches, Siskins, Song Thrushes, Mistle Thrushes, Bramblings, Stonechats, Wrens, Wagtails, and Yellowhammers.

When do I feed these dried mealworms to my garden birds?

These dried mealworms can be fed to your garden birds throughout the year. It is most important to feed them to wild birds during the winter as the number of insects available to birds is particularly low. The cold weather kills most of them off!

Fledglings LOVE these mealworms too. When they are hopping about in the Spring, soak the mealworms in some warm water for 20-30mins before putting them out. It will make them slightly softer for those baby fledglings to eat.

How do I feed these dried mealworms to birds?

These dried mealworms can be served to birds on their own or mixed in with other varieties of bird food such as sunflower seeds, peanuts and fat balls to attract a wide variety of species. You can also mix them in with water to aid with hydration.

You can use our bird feeders to hold them or our bird table to sprinkle them onto.

How can I learn more about what to feed the birds?

The RSPB has loads of advice for the best things to feed your local bird population. They actively urge you to do so as so many wildlife habitats and food sources have been affected by development and changes to farming practices. Take a look at their useful guide, or get more information from Johnston & Jeff here.

What else can I do to help my local wildlife?

All sorts! For birds, and other types of garden wildlife, one of their greatest threats is their loss of habitat which causes a reduction in the number of places for them to nest and breed. The solution? Create safe places for them to nest! We have a great range of houses for wildlife so you can attract many different wildlife species to your garden.
