UK Wool

Supports & protects wildlife

Sustainable

Wild birds put a lot of time into selecting material to build and line their nests with. They can be seen in early spring pecking wool off barbed wire and flying around chasing feathers to create the perfect soft bedding for incubating eggs and hatching youngsters. We find that our garden felt gets picked to bits in the spring. So we put out bags of wool. It’s fun watching them queue up to get beakfuls of wool and dart off to secret locations where they’re building nests. 100g is a generous amount of wool. It will be plenty to make a good number of nests nice and cosy.

Buy Land Plant Trees

At the core of Chimney Sheep is our Community Interest Company, Buy Land Plant Trees (BLPT). For every purchase you make with us, 20% of the profit facilitates the planting of trees on agriculturally poor land in Cumbria.

We set up BLPT in 2019 as a ‘boots on the ground’ tree planting initiative. The company is run by us and the tree planting is done by us. We do it to help you and us to reduce our impact on the planet. The trees we plant reduce CO2 output as well as contribute to the reduction of flooding and the creation of habitats for wildlife.

BLPT isn’t a tick box exercise nor a distant and detached carbon offset company. In fact, this is as much part of our business as the products we sell and is an integral part of our ethos. We are big believers in the phrase ‘think globally, act locally’ and want to make a genuine difference

Happy birds

An excellent service from Chimney Sheep.
The birds in my garden are delighted with their herdwick wool , they are pecking away at it getting large tufts in their beaks to take to their nests.
Lovely to watch from my kitchen window.
I would recommend the product to anyone.
My husband’s a cumbrian so he is pleased to support a local company.

Cosy home for the birds

Very happy with this product. Everything we expected and delivered when it said. Children loved filling up the containers to hang in the garden. Birds have already been investigating!! Will buy some other items as such a wonderful product.

Somebody gave me the wool packing from their Fortnum & Mason Christmas hamper last year. I stuck it in an upturned squirrel baffle and watched as nesting birds including blue tits and starlings came and took what they needed. Then in autumn a squirrel cleared out the leftovers in one afternoon, ferrying it to its drey further up the tree.

No F&M packing came my way this year, hence my order with you. Lovely quality, lots of it and it's already in place awaiting visitors!

I ran out of cat combings, so sheep wool was the next best thing. The dispenser in the bush is looking all dishevelled and so far I've seen a jackdaw and a squirrel taking big chunks out!
