Description

Protect your plants from this greedy little creature with the Grazers G4 Red Lily Beetle Deterrent. It stops this common garden pest from eating the leaves, stem, buds and flowers of lilies, fritillaries and other members of the lily family.

What effect does the red lily beetle have on plants?

As well as spoiling the flowers, attacks in early summer can result in the plant forming undersized bulbs that may not flower the following year. In some parts of the country the beetles are such a problem that some gardeners end up giving up on growing lilies because they can’t save them from these voracious pests.

You can read more about this on the RHS website.

How can this Red Lily Beetle Deterrent help?

The Grazers G4 formula is an easy-to-use spray which discourages these beetles without doing the plants or the pests any harm. It’s easy to apply and lasts six weeks before the treatment needs to be repeated.

It’s also safe to use without harming people, pets or the environment.

The product makes the foliage taste unpleasant, so the beetles don’t want to eat it. It doesn’t kill these pests. It just makes them avoid treated plants.

Why is it better to use G4 formula than chemical pest control products?

Chemical pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers can be poisonous to people and animals and can cause a threat to food chains.

Is there anything else I can do to tackle this problem?

Sadly, no. There are no natural predators for red lily beetles, which makes it even more important to treat the plants with Grazers G4 before they’re attacked.

Does Chimney Sheep sell any other natural pest control products?

Yes. We stock natural moth repellents and repellents that are effective against other insects that are harmful to health, such as ticks, midges and mosquitoes. We also have products that deter pigeons, deer, rabbits and other little creatures. Here’s our full range.

Does what it says on the tin....

Does what it says on the tin if you remember to spray on early. Spray on late and the bugs will still destroy your beloved Lilly’s.

  2. Amanda Cresswell

    Seems successful

Seems to work especially if you keep on applying it and keep an eye on your lilies. I had one or two beetles but I removed them easily. Then kept applying it and all was good.

  3. Anne 123

    Not great

This has helped with red beetle but not as it should says spray once a week, but has not gotten rid of them as they are back every day, I have had to spray daily.

  4. georgina bennett

Great for plant health not as expected for the beetles.

I have a problem with lily beetles every year and nothing works leaving me to remove the by hand and kill them. Not easy when the little critters fall onto the soil and can’t be seen. I bought this hoping it would be better. On the plus side my lilies have never looked so robust but I still have a problem with the Red Devils trying to eat my plants.

    Continued use needed

Was purchased to rid lillies of dreaded Beatles only acts as a deterrent need continued treatment to eradicate beasts

    Third purchase

Does what is says. Brilliant stuff. We have lots of lillies in the garden and are very protective of them, so first sign of these red monsters we are out there …this spray sorts them out..good time!

Looks like it is doing the job!

So far so good – although I’m using it with Neem oil and garlic solution. Have only seen a couple of the blighters on my Lily plants

  8. nic

Pretty good but won't remove them alone

Been using this for about 2 months after discovering my lillies were being eaten alive by red beetles. It took 4 days after spraying the first time, before beetles came back. I ended up spraying every few days, whilst also removing any beetles i saw to eventuallyget beetle free (after about 2-3 weeks).

    I hate lily beetles

I hate lily beetles. Along with their slimy pupae they decimate lilies if you give them half a chance.

Last year I almost gave up on lilies as so little was left on mine, even with me trying to pick off the bugs when I saw them.
This year I decided to take action and sprayed them all with this.
I’m pleased to say I got very little damage at all. I did have to pick off a few of the blighters, but overall it was very light and nothing that impacted the overall look too much.
Will definitely be buying this again.

    Love this stuff!

I have loads of lilies. They are currently standing at 5 foot and growing. But they’ve always frightened me because I don’t like red beetles. I don’t want to crush them and their babies are disgusting. Sprayed this stuff and no sign of a baby or a red beetle for a month or more! So pleased.

  11. Pelchat

    So far so good!

Seems to have discouraged the Lilly beetles from settling in the plants. Have to apply it regularly particularly after rain.

    ZAP! Lily Beetle...fast and effectively.

Excellent product. Wish I had bought it before my lillies were infested with lily beetle as it recommends to treat prophylactically, which I didn’t know til I read it on the bottle. Very simple to us, effective and sprays upside down for ease and convenience. Lily beetle’s gone after first treatment. Does not kill the beetle, so “pest-friendly”, as it just removes tgem and puts them off coming back. Would buy again.

    Lily beetle deterrent really works

I’ve waited a few weeks before writing a review but I can now confirm this really works. I had lily beetles and the spray, which is safe for other insects and animals clearly stopped them from eating the leaves and buds because I’ve now got lots of beautiful lily flowers. You need to check your plants every week or so and need to spray as soon as you see a red lily beetle (usually about 10-14 days after the previous spray).

  14. Kenty

It's not perfect, but it's significantly better than nothing!

I grow a lot of lilies, usually between 20 and 40 in a season, I love them, the flowers are beautiful and the scent is divine. However the little red devils love them too and have been known to strip my plants. I am not one for being out daily picking them off, but since using this I’ve seen a dramatic decrease in the number of Lily bugs on my plants, from regularly finding 5-10 a day, I’m unlucky now if I find 1 or 2.

It’s not perfect and if you read it, it’s not a pesticide, it’s not for killing the bugs, it’s a deterrent, making the plants less desirable to the bugs. It’s also organic and a booster for the plants, mine are looking strong and healthy in 2020, so long may it continue.

    It works!

I didn’t know what Lily Beetles were. I did note however that my four lily plants in a tub were being shredded to pieces by something. When I looked closely I saw two bright red beetles under the leaves busy copulating, with a number of others close by and obviously awaiting their turns. A quick Google search identified these as the dreaded lily beetle.
As life seems so fragile at the moment I didn’t really want to kill them, so an Amazon search revealed Grazers natural lily beetle repellent. I was sceptical, but I have sprayed the plants liberally, and the next day the beetles had gone and so far have not returned (5 days later now). The plants are already growing much more strongly.
I wondered how a simple chemical like calcium chloride (which is what Grazers contains) could give this effect.
However a quick internet search reveals that plants which are naturally resistant to aphids tend to have high levels of chloride in their leaves. Also chloride has some kind of involvement in the salivary system of insects. Therefore Grazers seems to work by making the leaves unattractive for these blighters to eat.
I’m happy, but I suppose someone else’s lilies are now being munched. Sorry to whoever that person is!

    Worked for my Lilies

Before this product arrived; I was manually picked up as many as I could have found from the plants. The beetles would have returned later or the next next day. After I used the spray; I haven’t seen them for a week now.

  17. Julie Barker Gran.

    Does what it says.

It’s a brilliant product. One of my lillies was really infested with lily beetles. I used this and no more beetles. Wish I’d known about this product before. A must buy for the garden.

  18. Helen Taylor

    Brilliant

My lilies have been chewed to bits by scarlet lily beetles over the past two years and I despaired of ever find ya way to defeat them.
    This works!
What’s more it doesn’t kill them, just deters them.
It’s so good I’m going to order some more.

  19. Amazon Customer

You must keep treating and do exactly as it say on the container

I used this product on my lilies which I have grown for years last year I had loads of red beetle invading them so spotted this product on line and decided to try it I am happy to report my lilies are now looking the healthiest they have ever been and no sign of red. Beetles at all
I am so pleased to recommend this item

  20. Mrs Danvers

    Amazing stuff

Amazing stuff! This is the first year yhat my lillies haven’t been munched to stumps. Lovely thing is; this spray doesnt kill the lilly beetle; just makes the lillies smell and taste horrible to the little blighters!
    Recommend this!

  21. r hasketh

It don’t kill the lilly beetles so be aware

I used this on my Lilly’s which where infested with Lilly beetles it did help improve the strength of the Lilly but I think I should have started earlier as a preventative will know for next year

  22. OC

    So far, so good!

so far so good, it keeps the dreaded lil belles away. Last year they looked like my grand mother’s lace, this year, foliage seems unaffected. I did spot a few beetles some time ago but that product sent them away. For now. So I am dutifully spraying after each rainstorm, in hope..
