This Bamboo Dish Brush is made from FSC certified bamboo. The head is also made from FSC certified bamboo and has natural sisal bristles. FSC is the Forest Stewardship Council, which is an international non-profit that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests.
Bamboo is a durable, lightweight, and stylish material making it great for all sorts of uses, such as a dish brush with a replaceable head! Not only will this brush look more natural and elegant in your kitchen than the common plastic alternatives, but the sustainability and other qualities of bamboo make it so much better for the environment.
Both the head and the handle of this bamboo dish brush have been oiled with natural oil, allowing it to last longer and giving it a shiny, elegant look. It has a rounded handle and an angled head to make it easy to use. The bristles are semi-soft meaning they clean well and hold their shape for longer, and they’re made from natural sisal fibres from the Agave plant. When the head eventually gets worn out, you can easily just swap it out for a new one – you can find a pack of 2 refill brushes here.
Why should I choose this over other dish brushes or sponges?
When you compare this bamboo dish brush to other, plastic alternatives, you’ll start to realise just how damaging they are to the planet. Even regular everyday sponges are made from what is essentially oil-based plastic (they’re often made from polyurethane which is a petroleum-based ingredient, as well as other manmade materials).
As I’m sure we are all well aware of by now, the use of so much plastic has been (and still is!) extremely damaging to the environment. This Bamboo Dish Brush contains exactly ZERO plastic, not even in the packaging! It’s made from 100% natural bamboo and sisal and, once it reaches the end of its long, long life, it will eventually compost down – we would recommend cutting it up into smaller pieces though to help speed up the process. Bamboo is incredibly easy to sustain as it doesn’t need any fertiliser and it self-regenerates from its own roots meaning it doesn’t even need to be replanted! As it’s made from 100% natural materials it creates no plastic or microplastic pollution and so causes no harm to the environment – isn’t that just great?!
You’ve mentioned FSC certification, what is that?
FSC is the Forest Stewardship Council, an international non-profit whose aim is to take care of the forests and the people and wildlife who call them home. FSC certification has been growing for more than 25 years and now more than 200 million hectares (1 hectare is equal to 10,000 square metres) of forest are certified to FSC standards. That’s a HUGE amount. But a quick Google will tell you that it’s only about 5% of all forests on Earth. So, we need to use materials from these forests when we can!
FSC certification is an important thing to be aware of because by choosing products with the FSC label, you’re helping to take care of the world’s forests. We care so much about the environment here at Chimney Sheep, it’s a part of who we are. Because of this, a variety of our products are made with FSC-certified materials, such as our Robin and Blackbird Open Fronted Nest Box which is made from FSC-approved, sustainable 15mm thick European redwood, and these Household Rubber Gloves that are made using 100% FSC-certified, fairly traded rubber.

At the core of Chimney Sheep is our Community Interest Company, Buy Land Plant Trees (BLPT). For every purchase you make with us, 20% of the profit facilitates the planting of trees on agriculturally poor land in Cumbria.
We set up BLPT in 2019 as a ‘boots on the ground’ tree planting initiative. The company is run by us and the tree planting is done by us. We do it to help you and us to reduce our impact on the planet. The trees we plant reduce CO2 output as well as contribute to the reduction of flooding and the creation of habitats for wildlife.
BLPT isn’t a tick box exercise nor a distant and detached carbon offset company. In fact, this is as much part of our business as the products we sell and is an integral part of our ethos. We are big believers in the phrase ‘think globally, act locally’ and want to make a genuine difference
